LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered Punjab Education Department to take action against Private Schools involved in collecting summer vacation’s fee in advance. Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi of the LHC passed the order. The judge observed that the department should use media to publicize its actions.
Shabbiruz Zaman and others had filed the petitions and submitted that the private schools were collecting fee for summer vacations in advance. They said this act of the schools was violation of the government’s direction. They stated that the government had not been taking action to enforce the policy.
During the hearing, A deputy secretary told the judge that the government had already issued a notification against collection of three-month long summer vacations in advance. However, he said, the department had not so far received any complaint in this regard. At this, Justice Qureshi remarked that the department to properly propagate its policy.
In another case, the LHC yesterday directed TMO Nishtar Town to appear in person before the court in a petition seeking contempt proceedings against him for demolishing a building despite stay order. Shafqat Ali filed contempt petition and submitted that the court had stayed demolition of his shop but the TMO ignored the order. He stated the TMO committed contempt of court and action should be taken against him. Justice Shahid Waheed summoned the TMO Nishtar Town for June 2.
