Rape victim seeks justice

KARACHI Another rape victim, a teenage girl Naveeda Kalhoro, is waiting for justice as culprits of the heinous crime are still at large in the Nausheroferoze district to Sindh. According to the parents of victim, the culprits kidnapped the girl and allegedly raped her. The civil society and human right organisations also gathered the information, which were sent to government authorities in search of immediate help, but so far no assistance has been given to the victim family. Zuhran and Ghulam Hussain Kalhoro, mother and father of girl Saturday told the media that they have lodged FIR at Bharia Road Police Station against the culprits namely Hashim Luhrani, Baig Bux alias Baigo Luhrani, Mustaque Luhrani, Zaman Luhrani and Nisar Luhrani and others. But police dropped the names of other criminals, Abdul Salam Luhrani and Abdul Karim Luhrani from the FIR due to backing of influential persons. They stated that their daughter was kidnapped in evening of 26th October 2010, while six persons of Luhrani tribe their home. They alleged that four culprits of Luhrani tribe gang raped her. They continued that their daughter was recovered by police on 28th October 2010 and produced before court after medical check up at district hospital Naushahro Feroze. The parents of the girl said that their daughter tired to commit suicide, as culprits were still at large due to blessings of police and influential persons of the area. They requested the Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Pakistan and other concerned authorities to take suo-moto action against the culprits because police is not taking any sort of action against criminals due to political backing to criminals. Meanwhile, according to official press release issued by Sindh Information Department, Mrs Tauqir Fatima Bhutto Provincial Minister for Women Development Sindh on Saturday took serious notice of the gory incident of gang rape in Naushahro Feroze District and directed the district police officer to submit report about the incident. She directed the DPO Nausheroferoze to arrest the culprits involved in gang rape incident immediately. The father of victim girl Ghulam Hussain Kalhoro had registered FIR against the culprits. According to the reports police recovered the victim girl and produced her in local court. She was referred to Civil Hospital for medical checkup. Provincial Minister for Women Development directed to the In-Charge Women Crisis Center, Kalsoom Qazi to provide legal and other required facilities to victim girl for early justice. She further emphasised the need to create awareness among the women of Sindh province and the Women Development Department will organise the seminar to aware the masses on district level.
