Rawalpindi - The investiture ceremony of the Students Council and the Annual Exhibition 2014 of Federal Government (FG) Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road were held here on Thursday.
Brig Khush Muhammad Khan, Director FGEI Cantt and Garrison, was the chief guest on this occasion. College principal, other faculty members and a large number of students also attended the ceremonies.
To display the creative blooming of young creative minds, the annual exhibition was held in collaboration with the departments of Fine Arts, Home Economics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The exhibition was inaugurated at the Fine Arts Department where yearly projects of the students made a brave show. Their work included tiles, textiles, cards, posters, abstract painting, figure composition, fabric designs, landscape, still-life and paintings on stone and marble. Designs of different civilisations in pottery painting were highly appreciated.
Students from 1st year to 4th year employed different mediums such as pencils, charcoal, water colours, oil colours, crayons, acrylics etc under the able guidance of their teachers to produce some real gems of art and designing.
An equally fascinating and colourful segment of the exhibition was observed in the Home Economics Department. Tastefully and skilfully made projects of students such as trolley sets, kitchen sets, collage, tie and dye, cushion work, patchwork, frocks, card-making and flower arrangements were simply stunning. They truly reflected the consistent efforts of students and teachers.
The Computer Science Department exhibited its skills in software projects. Ayesha Shafique and Naila Bashir made their project on “Car Rental System” whereas Fazeela Sundas and Umm-e-Rubab’s project was on the Pakistan Air Force.
The Department of Physics displayed models of “Wind Mill”, “Rocket Propulsion”, “Mass Accelerometer” by Veronica Akhtar and Sidra Malik, “Electronic Locomotive” by Fiza Wasim, “Energy Conversion”, “Torque”, “Electroscope” and “Digital Security System”.
In Biology students made models of “Nitrogen Cycle”, “Water Cycle, Action of the Diaphragm” and “Pollution”.
The Department of Chemistry displayed their skill through presenting projects on ‘Instrument Manufacturing’, ‘Rutherford Atomic Model’, ‘ Contact Process’, ‘Hydrogen Bonding’, and ‘Galvanic Cell’. The chief guest saw the exhibition and appreciated the work of students.
Later Brig Khush Muhammad Khan installed the newly elected members of the students council.
College principal paid a rich tribute to the chief guest whose determined efforts and meticulous planning worked a great deal in uplifting the standard of FGEI C/G.
She also presented a brief synopsis of the achievements of the College during the session 2013-14.
She said, “Our students won laurels by winning 69 individual prizes and 17 trophies in various inter-regional competitions held by FGEI C/G Directorate and other Inter-Collegiate contests.”
Brig Khush Muhammad Khan took oath from the newly elected council members and presidents of various societies and distributed badges among them. The new council members included Simmat Mansha (President), vice president Zoha Malik Sher, General Secretary (1st Shift) Syeda Dua Tanveer, General Secretary (2nd Shift) Komal Iftikhar, Joint Secretary (1st Shift) Tehniat Sohail, Joint Secretary (2nd Shift) Rida Zahra. Brig Khush Muhammad Khan, in his address to the students, said that we must aim at developing a scientific approach in education that promotes rational, logical and modern thinking in all fields and subjects.
He placed special emphasis on the role of youth in nation building as today’s youth is tomorrow’s nation and hence the future of Pakistan will be shaped by their vision. He exhorted teachers to take cognizance of their great role in honing the potential and personalities of their students.
Teachers are the carvers of their destiny and should guide their students into becoming life-long learners and discourage rote learning. He outlined his vision for the FG Educational Institutions i.e. to transform these institutes into one of the best educational systems of the world.
The chief guest called the council members as “the guiding stars of discipline” and emphasised upon their role in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect within the college that was congenial to learning.
