KHANEWAL-Four terrorists, said to be affiliated with outlawed TTP, were killed in crossfire with the Counter-Terrorism Department while two others managed to flee from the scene, taking advantage of the darkness.
The CTD also recovered huge quantity of weapons, explosives and hand grenades from the scene.
According to CTD spokesman, the dead terrorists were affiliated with banned Tehreek-e-Taliban. The shootout took place in the area of 93 Puli near Mehr Shah, Khanewal late the other night. The CTD conducted a raid on the hideout of the terrorists following intelligence about the presence in the area.
The terrorists, however, resorted to intense firing on the lawmen and also lobbed a hand grenade over them. In counter-firing, four terrorists were killed and two other managed to escape. The CTD claimed that two hand grenades, two rifles, two pistols and a large number of bullets were recovered from them. According to sources, the terrorist were identified as Muhammad Qasim, resident of Bhakkar, Abdul Samad and Ziauddin, residents of Bajaur and Noor Sher, resident of Tank. The CTD sources informed that raids are being conducted to arrest the fleeing terrorists. According to the LEAs, the terrorists were planning attacks on important personalities and sensitive installation in the district.
Following the shootout, the District Police accompanied by the intelligence agencies carried out an extensive combing operation in different areas including Bilawalpur, Saddr Kabirwala, Adda 12 Meel, and in the remit of Khanewal Saddr police. The police arrested dozens of suspects and recovered illegal weapons during the operation.
