PML-N to take legal action against ICIJ

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday said that it would take legal action against International Consortium for Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) for including Prime Minister’s name in the list of offshore companies.

“It was not an editing mistake, as it was factual error made by ICIJ,” said PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz while addressing a joint Press conference with Chairman Privatisation Commission Muhammad Zubair.

He further said that govt is working to issue legal notice to the ICIJ based in Washington. He also grilled the Opposition for witch-hunting of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Panama leaks where his name is not in the list of offshore companies.

“Opposition are playing only politics on Panama Leaks issue by following one point agenda to remove Prime Minister from his post,” he added.

PML-N leaders also rejected the speculations that Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has asked Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf to resolve the issue of Panama Leaks on priority basis.

“Army Chief and Prime Minister have only discussed the security situation of the country, which has improved,” said Zubair.

He further said that Prime Minister and his family are ready to appear before the Supreme Court-led Judicial Commission if it will summon them first. He challenged the Opposition to present any precedent in which father was held responsible for the deeds of his children.

He said that Nawaz Sharif’s name is not mentioned in Panama Papers and only his children are included in the leaks. “Let the court decide about Panama leaks not Imran Khan or Aitzaz Ahsan,” he remarked.

Zubair said investigation should be held in light of the fundamental rights, Pakistan and International laws. He asked how could the govt include the name of any person in Panama leaks, as said by former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi.

He said that Imran Khan has never filed any tax returns in 20 years and he should also be held accountable for that.

Danyal Aziz said Supreme Court’s judges are fully empowered to rephrase ToRs and start investigations according to their own priority.

He said that if PML-N does not have any objection if the Commission starts investigation from the Prime Minister and his family, but it should not be dictated by any quarters.

Danyal Aziz said that Opposition is trying to protect their own leaders, whose names have been leaked in Panama Papers and only targeting the Prime Minister.

He said that formation of Judicial Commission was the demand of the Opposition and the Prime Minister has written a letter to the Chief Justice of the apex court for this purpose and now it should not try to run away from the accountability.

He said that names of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, PTI leaders Aleem Khan, Jahangir Tareen and PML-Q leader Moonas Elahi are also mentioned in the Panama Papers and now they are avoiding accountability.
