Asfand re-elected ANP president

PESHAWAR - Condemning the US aggression on Pakistani soil and killing of 24 soldiers in border area of Mohmand Agency, the re-elected Central President of Awami National Party Asfandyar Wali Khan has said that NATO and ISAF must know their limits as according to the charter of UN their powers are only restricted within the Afghan boundaries. He said this while addressing the ANP electoral meeting here at the Chief Ministers House on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the electoral process for election started at 10.30 pm under the supervision of Senator Haji Adeel who was Chairman of the Central Election Commission. Those who were re-elected for another term included Asfandyar Wali Khan Central President of the party, Senator Haji Adeel, Senior Vice President, Ahsan Wayne General Secretary, Senator Zahid Khan, Information Secretary, Hashim Babar, Finance Secretary, Tajuddin Khan, Additional General Secretary, Doctor Haider Ali, Cultural Secretary, Asmatullah Khan, Secretary Labour, while Nawabzada Mohsin Ali Khan was elected Deputy General Secretary. During the electoral meeting, some amendments were also made in the ANP constitution in which the number of woman office-bearers was increased to 10, which include five designations of central Vice President and five central Joint Secretaries. Asfandyar further said that several attempts were made to violate Pakistans sovereignty by US and NATO but due to cool response they got encouraged to attack repeatedly. He said that this time we should not condemn these strikes but we should resist such attacks. He said that after achieving their political goals, the next priority of Awami National Party was the restoration of peace in the region. He said that the solution of all the problems lies in democracy and ANP would oppose any unconstitutional steps, which could derail democracy in Pakistan. Senior party leader including Afzal Khan Lala, Azam Khan Hoti, Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Chief Minister Hoti, Bashir Ahmad Bilour and others were also present on the occasion. It is worth mentioning here that most of the party office bearers were willing to re-elect central President Asfandyar Wali Khan and provincial President Afrasiab Khattak. The name of Asfandyar Wali was suggested by Azam Khan Hoti and supported by Abdul Nabi Bangash. This was fourth consecutive term for central President Asfandyar Wali Khan to be elected as President of the party at central level. The total strength of the central council was 540 which included 100 members from each province beside elected MPAs, MNAs and Senators of the party. Other officer-bearers will comprise Vice Presidents, Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, Joint Secretaries, Secretary Finance, Secretary Information, Secretary Foreign Affairs, Secretary Labour and Student Affairs and Central Chief Commander. He was first elected as central President in 1998 then in 2003 and for third term in 2007 while this is his fourth term after being elected on November 30th, 2011.
