A daily dose of drone attacks and killings

PESHAWAR - At least five persons were killed when a US spy plane fired missile on suspected vehicle of Taliban militants in Norak area of South Waziristan Agency here on Wednesday. Sources said that the missile was fired when a suspected vehicle of militants was passing through Norak area of South Waziristan agency near Mir Ali Town. The attack resulted in the killing of five persons on the spot. Soon after the drone attack, the tribal people and local Taliban cordoned off the area and started rescue activities on self-help basis. The drone attack caused severe fear and panic among the dwellers as the spy plane was still hovering till the filing of this report. The exact identity of the killed persons couldnt yet be determined. As a result of missile strikes, the vehicle carrying suspected militants was completely reduced to scrap. So far neither the United States nor NATO forces camping across the border nor Pakistani authorities have issued any statement regarding the missile strike. It may be mentioned that the missile strike was the third of its kind in the last two days, which hit both North and South Waziristan. On Tuesday night a US Spy plane targeted a house in Sra Rogha area, which resulted killing of six persons while injuring six others, later the five of the seriously injured succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Beside this a US drone attack also targeted a house in Danda area of North Waziristan which resulted in the killing of five persons. The total number of casualties rose to 21 in the last two days in which the US drones targeted suspected hideouts of militants. It is surprising to mention that despite protest of Pakistani authorities including President Asif Ali Zardari, such missile strikes have become a routine feature in Waziristan region. The US authorities have termed such attacks meaningful and effective against militants.
