Nawaz for a self-reliant, invincible Pakistan

LAHORE Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said he was trying to evolve national consensus on a line of action to make Pakistan an honourable self-reliant nation, which did not have to depend on foreign assistance. Nawaz further said he wanted to create a prosperous society in Pakistan, based on national resources for making the country invincible. The PML-N chief expressed these views while talking to a delegation of senior journalists. Sharif said the target could be achieved only when a peaceful atmosphere prevailed in the country, allowing the people to carry out economic activities freely. Everybody should pool resources and also be benefited, he added. While urging people to render sacrifices, the former prime minister said the leadership should also let it be known as to what was the result of the previous sacrifices. If we cannot guarantee the people jobs, housing, education, health and a secure future, why do we ask them to give more sacrifices, he asked. He underscored the need for the revival of a Pakistan movement-like spirit to rid the country of all problems and turn it into a state as envisioned by the Quaid-e-Azam. Well have to go for a short and long-term national agenda. Every party, institution and segment of society will have to sacrifice its interest for Pakistans interest. Nawaz also exchanged views about the 25-year Charter of Pakistan, which he thinks should be worked out by all stakeholders. Sharif said the bitter experiences of the past must be buried for good for stability of the democratic system.
