ISLAMABAD The Supreme Court on Wednesday declared the appointments of Acting Chairman National Accountability Bureau Javed Qazi and Prosecutor General NAB Irfan Qadir illegal. The three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry issued this order while hearing a petition regarding reappointment of Irfan Qadir as Prosecutor General NAB and the functioning of Deputy Chairman NAB as Acting Chairman of the Bureau. The other members of the SC bench were Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday. The same bench of the apex court earlier had reserved the judgement after hearing petition filed by Advocate General Punjab Khawaja Haris against these two NAB officials during the hearing of Bank of Punjab loan scam case. In its written order, the Court said that the appointment of Irfan Qadir as Prosecutor General was illegal and he should summarily be removed from his office. Qadir is also one of the accused for receiving money from owners of Haris Steel Mill along with Law Minister Babar Awan. The Court also declared the appointment of Javed Qazi as NABs Acting Chairman illegal. The Court ordered to appoint a permanent chairman of the Bureau. The office of NAB chairman has been vacant since the resignation of Naveed Ahsan.
