Rival student groups clash at PU

LAHORE - A clash took place between the members of University Students Federation (USF) and the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) at Punjab University New Campus triggering fear among other students. A police source said that three to four students from both sides sustained minor injuries during the physical clash between them, which started near Hailey College of Punjab University. Later, a large number of activists of the USF blocked the Canal Road for traffic and chanted slogans against the IJT. The protesting students were of the view that the IJT activists beat up some students of USF and demanded of the police legal action against the attackers. The road remained blocked for two hours causing massive traffic mess. DSP Wahdat Colony Circle Tariq Azeem said that both the parties clashed with each other to get control of the university. He, however, denied reports of armed clash saying that the students of the both IJT and USF scuffled physically over the issue. He said that the USF students blocked the road in protest against the IJT for beating up their workers but police dispersed them after negotiations.
