Arrest warrants of Raja Pervaiz Ashraf issued

RAWALPINDI - A local court, Saturday, issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and others for not appearing in the court despite repeated summons to face a criminal case registered in 1998 implicating them in quarrel and misbehaved with the staff of the Lahore High Court (LHC). Judge Syed Farrukh Hussain Shamsi issued the non-bailable arrest warrants of the federal minister, Shahzada Kosar Gilani and Muhammad Sabir workers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) directing Airport Police to arrest them and produce before the court on November 7 after police submitted the accused could not be reached at their addresses. The court has been conducting the trial of the accused after they were booked by Airport Police on December 23 1998 on the request of the Deputy Registrar of the LHCs Rawalpindi bench. The case was registered on charges of rioting, defamation, criminal intimidation, encountering and obstructing public servants after the accused misbehaved with the staff of the court when they were stopped to blacken the face of a government servant for recording his statement as witness against Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari who had moved the LHC against the corruption proceedings against them by the then government. In the same case close aide of Benazir Bhutto moved an application under section 249-A of CrPC seeking acquittal in the case saying she was dejectedly related with the case and there was nothing incriminating against her in the case.
