Sold girl seeks justice from CM Punjab

ISLAMABAD A Pakistani girl, wandering on the roads and streets in the United Kingdom, has requested Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for justice against the atrocities committed to her by her mother and so-called 70-year-old husband, TheNation has learnt. In 2000, Saba Noreen, then 14-year-old, was sold by her mother Rukhsana for three hundred thousand rupees to 70-year-old Muhammad Aamil, resident of Lalazar, Zafar Akbar Road, Rawalpindi who was already married. Muhammad Aamil is builder of housing societies by profession. Muhammad Aamil took Saba Noreen to Murree and raped her in a hotel room for five days. On return from Murree, she told the whole tale to her mother, Rukhsana who turned deaf ear to her. Meanwhile, the family of Muhammad Aamil came to know that he had got married to Saba. Muhammad Aamir, the son of Muhammad Aamil, the then Manager of Standard Chartered Bank, threatened Saba Noreen of dire consequences as his mother was not happy with her (Saba) marriage. He attempted to kill her but her mother saved her life, according to her application addressed to the Chief Minister. It is also mentioned in the application of Saba Noreen that thereafter she got pregnant. Muhammad Aamil asked her for abortion saying that he needed no kids. Saba Noreen sought police help against the rape by Muhammad Aamil and the murder attempt by his son. But the then Station House Officer (SHO) of Civil Lines Police Station Asghar Goraya turned deaf ear towards her. He took her signatures on a blank paper and kicked her out from the police station. Her mother, Rukhsana and so-called husband Muhammad Aamil had bribed SHO, she further maintained. Saba Noreens mother and Muhammad Aamil tried to register a Nikah with the court, but she neither appeared before the court nor she signed any Nikah paper, it is said in the complaint. Rukhsana and Muhamamd Aamil just to save their skins from the clutches of law forcefully deported Saba Noreen to the United Kingdom where she is passing her life on roads and streets for the last five years. When this scribe contacted Rukhsana, she admitted, I gave my daughters hand to Muhammad Aamil for the sake of money. I received rupees three hundred thousand from Muhamad Aamil. I asked Muhammad Aamil for Nikah but he refused and said that he preferred Nikah at a later stage. She further said that he (Aamil) kept marital relationship with her daughter for four years on the basis of verbal Nikah. There was no written Nikah between Saba and Muhamamd Aamil, she added. When Saba reached 18 years of age we asked her for Nikah but she simply refused to do so. We had threat from the family of Muhmmad Aamil that is why we deported her to the United Kingdom to save her life, she further maintained. It is leant that on her application, the Chief Minister has directed the City Police Officer (CPO), Rawalpindi, for immediate necessary action. When contacted, CPO Rawalpindi said, We have registered FIR and an investigation officer has been deputed to investigate the case and to complete the legal process. To a question whether SHO of Civil Lines Police Station Asghar Goraya would be held accountable, he said that an impartial inquiry has been initiated and if he was fond involved, he would be issued show cause notice. When asked why no accused had been arrested after lodging FIR on March 21, he said that he would check it on Monday. We will not spare any one involved in the case, he assured. It may be added here that despite clear-cut directives from the Punjab Chief Minister, Rawalpindi police is yet to arrest the accused. When this scribe contacted Hasnat Ahmed, Investigation Officer, he simply refused to talk on the issue. Despite continued efforts accused Muhamamd Aamil or applicant Saba Noreen couldnt be contacted.
