ISLAMABAD - Overseas Pakistan Foundation (OPF) has sent a reference to NAB against three persons including its former managing director for causing loss of over Rs 60 million to the national exchequer in a purchase of land deal. Managing Director OPF Habibur Rehman told the meeting of special committee of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) here Wednesday. He said the reference had been sent against former MD Ainud Din Siddiqui, the then director land RH Nayyaz and contractor Kamal Nasir. They struck a deal with Kamal Nasir to purchase 2000 kanals land for OPF housing scheme in 1990. The land was purchased for Rs 95,000 per kanal which was three times higher than the market rate. The contractor provided only 536 kanals in pieces out of 2000 kanals which was a sheer breach of the deal. Chairperson Yasmin Rehman directed NAB to complete the probe within three months and initiate action against those found responsible. Meanwhile, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) showed its concern on Wednesday regarding a large amount of money given to former UK Parliamentarian, George Galloway by the Pakistani High Commission in London. The Pakistani High Commission in London gave 135,000 pounds to Galloway from the Pakistan Projection Funds. When this topic came into discussion during a PAC meeting, the additional foreign secretary said that this was a sensitive issue and should not be propagated. At this, member of PAC, Hamid Yar Hiraj responded by saying that those who have caused a loss to the national treasury should not be pardoned. However, the additional secretary said that certain Pakistani missions held confidential funds which they used for the purpose of national interest.Another member of the PAC, Haider Abbas Rizvi said that the Parliament should be taken into confidence on the issue of such special funds.
