ISLAMABAD - A mysterious explosion occurred on Wednesday at Jinnah Super Market, however no casualty was reported. Experts said the blast had resemblance with those which occurred a few weeks back in Lahore. However, Islamabad Police didnt confirm the nature of the blast and said that it was a cylinder blast. However after some minutes, they termed it a blast of a cracker used in a marriage ceremony. The blast took place at Jinnah Super Markets parking lot in front of Kings Arcade Plaza. The sound of the blast was heard in a radius of many kilometres. The police also found shattered glass pieces and some damaged spare parts of a car, however no news of recovery of damaged car came to surface till filing of this report. The windowpanes of nearby building were smashed. The officials of bomb disposal squad reached the scene and cordoned off the area. Talking to this correspondent, DIG Binyamin said, Nature of blast is yet to be ascertained; it could be a Lahore-type blast that took place in Allama Iqbal Town in recent past and it could be that of a cracker mostly used in marriage ceremonies. Another senior police officer wishing not to be named said that it was sound bomb that was hurled at parking lot by unidentified persons to create fear and panic among the people. Interior Ministry Rehman Malik visited the blast site. Talking to media persons he said that it was a firecracker. However he said that it could be an attempt to create panic and fear among the people. He also ordered an inquiry to ascertain the facts.
