Head of bomber found

ISLAMABAD - Police officials claimed on Monday that they have found the head of the suicide attacker who had targeted the police officials Sunday evening at Melody Chowk, killing around 21 people. Meanwhile, a joint investigation team, to be headed by the Inspector General Police (IGP), has also been formed to probe into the blast incident. Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik while confirming the report said that police have found the head of the suicide bomber and it has been sent to hospital for surgery. "We have got the head of the attacker and it has been sent to hospital where the surgery is underway. However, the face of bomber has been badly damaged", Rehman Malik said while talking to journalists at the spot of the incident. He said the investigations were underway but the initial report has confirmed that the explosive material used in the suicide attack was similar to that which was used in attacking the Danish Embassy and FIA Headquarter (Lahore). He added that suicide attacker used battery, ball baring and Potassium chlorate in the explosive material. He also added that no one had yet been arrested for being involved in the incident and the investigation team was doing its best to reach the responsible elements. "The security has been beefed up all over the country and police, along with other security agencies, have been directed to remain vigilant," he informed the media. Responding a question, he said there was no truth in the news that attacker was 30 to 35 years old as eyewitnesses had said that his age was about 16 to 18 years. He further said with the formation of the democratic government, such heinous activities have been reduced and it was the second blast in the tenure of PPP led government. He said that it could not be said a reaction of the Bara operation. He said that the government was working to bring stability and peace in the country and situation in FATA was improving day by day. Meanwhile, the Joint Investigation Team, consisting of FIA, Islamabad Capital Territory Police and other security agencies, visited the spot on Monday morning and also collected some more evidences from there. First Information Report of the suicide attack has been registered at Aabpara Police Station. There are reports that some injured persons are still in critical condition. Agencies add: the death toll rose to 16 policemen and five civilians, officials said. The White House on Monday denounced a suicide bombing that killed 21 people in Pakistan, calling it a "needless act of violence" and vowing to help the US ally fight "this common enemy." "We offer our sincere condolences to those injured in this needless act of violence, and especially to those families who lost loved ones," White House national security spokesman Gordon Johndroe said. "Extremists continue to show their disregard for all human life and their willingness to kill fellow Muslims. We will continue to stand with the people of Pakistan as they face this common enemy," Johndroe said. Online adds: The funeral of 14 policemen, who were martyred in a bomb blast near Lal Masjid on Sunday, was offered in Islamabad and Rawalpindi Police Lines. The Namaz-e-Janaza of SHO PS Sihala Chaudhry Safdar Hussain, SI Zafar Iqbal, Constables Ameer Mukhtar, Aftab Hussain and Ilyas was offered at Islamabad Police Line.
