ISLAMABAD - The establishment division secretary informed Supreme Court that a special committee, constituted to scrutinise the cases of contract officials, has sent their recommendations for the termination of another 28 re-employed officers to the PM. Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, Secretary Establishment Division, told the six-member bench hearing the Haj scam case that 28 more cases had been sent to the prime minister for consideration. As the PM was out of the country, he would take decision on the committees recommendations after he returns back, he told. He informed the court that FIA DG Waseem Ahmed had resigned. But the chief justice said Waseem had resigned not because of you but the circumstances that led him to tender his resignation. Rauf Ch said 54 section officers would be promoted to the posts of deputy secretaries and there would be job opportunities for the young people. The chief justice remarked there was no scarcity of talented persons in Pakistan and stated how long the country would be run on ad-hocism? He said the people should be employed through the Public Service Commission. The government should employ young boys and girls who run from pillar to post having Masters degrees. Federation counsel Hafeez Pirzada stated 142 deputy secretaries who were about to retire were ready to work with less salaries and perks as section officers. He stated the government had not overruled the appointment and promotion of young officers, adding the government was still the biggest employer in the country. The Balochistan govt, which erstwhile had stated that there were no contract officers in the province, on Friday informed the court that there were several officers on contract in police and other departments. The CJ directed the federal government to let the special committee continue its work and submit the report on next date of hearing, and adjourned the case till April 22. Earlier, the FIA informed the court that Establishment Divisions Section Officer Ejaz Hussain Lone and Additional Secretary Tauqir Ahmed had given statements against Ismail Qureshi, Establishment Division ex-secretary. The establishment division has notified the SC that 15 out of the 28 sacked employees have been served a 30 day notice period, reported a TV channel.
