PPP, PML-N agree to target 100 top loan defaulters

ISLAMABAD - The parliamentary committee of the PPP and PML-N headed by Finance Minister Abdul Hafiz Shaikh met Tuesday and discussed various steps the government had so far taken to implement the 10-point agenda. Senator Ishaq Dar led PML-N side. Later, talking to reporters the finance minister said that the committee had decided to evolve a national strategy in consultations with the PML-N for improvement of the national economy. He said that the committee had decided to recover written-off loans from one hundred persons who had secured huge loans and later got them written off. On tax collection issue, he said that the FBR was making efforts to expand the tax net and would soon unveil a list of 700,000 taxpayers. On price control mechanism, he pointed out that the government would evolve an effective mechanism in cooperation with the provincial governments. In addition to these measures, he said that the government had geared up efforts to reduce budget deficit and cut in governments expenditures. Speaking on the occasion, PML-N leader Senator Ishaq Dar said that the government had agreed to notify names of 12-member parliamentary committee to reform the Election Commission of Pakistan. He said the committee would continue its deliberations over the 10-point agenda for consecutive three days to evolve consensus for implementing the agenda at the earliest.
