Violence in Karachi continues unabated

KARACHI - The ongoing wave of violence claimed ten more lives in the metropolis on Monday. About 38 political workers have been shot dead during the last seven days. Those killed on Monday included five activists of Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqqiqi (MQM-H), two workers of MQM and a person associated with the Islami Jamiat Talba and an unidentified citizen. The dead body of Amir Zaib, son of Nasir and a former worker of MQM-H, was found from Babar Market in the limits of Landhi police station. Unknown assailants shot him dead after kidnapping. Similarly, armed motorcyclists shot dead Zahid Elahi, son of Khalil, near his residence in Korangi No 6 within the jurisdiction of Awami Colony police station. The deceased was associated with MQM-H. Another MQM-H activist, Fahimuddin, was shot dead when armed men riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate firing on him at Liaquatabad. Landhi Police have registered a case against unidentified culprits and started further investigation. In another incident, unknown assailants gunned down Karim Bux within the jurisdiction of Memon Goth Police Station. The victim was also affiliated with MQM-H. Meanwhile, three people including a 7-year-old boy were killed and another person sustained serious injuries when assailants opened fire on them within the limits of Gulbahar police station. As a result, Naeem alias Munna, Shera son of Adam and 7-year-old Alam died while the injured was identified as Irfan, who was said to be in critical condition at the hospital. Liaquatabad Town SP Jan Zafarullah said the incident was part of the recent wave of target killing of political workers in a city. He said that Irfan, the security guard of senior PPP activist, Bilal Sheikh, and his comrade Naeem were sitting at a shop near Jewelry Street, Firdous Colony, when assailants targeted them. But, deceased vendor Shera and Alam also fell victim to indiscriminate firing. SHO Gulberg, Fahimuddin, said that both deceased persons were activists of the MQM-H and had friendship with Bilal Sheikh. Meanwhile, unidentified motorcyclists shot dead Saifullah Siddiqui, son of Ahmedul Haq, near Gol Market, Nazimabad within limits of Shamim Shaheed police station when he was returning home after offering morning prayers. Police said the deceased was former worker of MQM and an employee of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK). Similarly, Khawaja Sibtain Raza, another MQM supporter, was shot dead near his residence at Block-9, Azizabad in the limits of Jauharabad police station. Meanwhile, Mohsin Akhtar, a member of Islami Jamiat Talba, who had sustained serious wounds during a clash between Pukhtoon Student Federation and the IJT on June 5, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
