PBC moves for disciplinary action against Aitzaz, Irfan

ISLAMABAD The Executive Committee of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has decided to send names of Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and Prosecutor General National Accountability Bureau Irfan Qadir before the disciplinary committee for appropriate action against their alleged role in the Bank of Punjab (BoP) multi-billion scam. It is relevant to mention here that the names of other prominent lawyers who were allegedly involved in this multi-billion BoP scam including Law Minister Babar Awan, Senator Wasim Sajjad, Ali Wasim Sajjad, Sharif-ud-Din Pirzada and Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum are already under consideration before the PBC Disciplinary Committee for appropriate action. According to a written statement of Sheikh Afzal, the main accused of the BoP scam, besides Mohsin Naqvi, a journalist, and Sarfraz Merchant, the aforementioned lawyers took millions of rupees from him in order to get a favourable verdict for him from the courts. According to his written statement, Babar Awan and Malik Qayyum gave assurance to Sh Afzal that they would use their good offices to approach the judges. President Asif Ali Zardaris blue-eyed NAB Prosecutor General Irfan Qadir allegedly played middlemans role in this scam. Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here, the office bearers of the PBC said that a meeting of Executive Committee of the PBC held Tuesday in the councils office, Supreme Court Building. Ch Muhammad Nasrullah Warraich chaired the meeting. The executive committee also passed a resolution which said: The Executive Committee of the PBC has taken serious note of the disparaging comments of Muhammad Akram Sheikh about the PBC in 18th constitutional amendment case that PBC should be excluded form Judicial Commission. PBC asked Akram Sheikh to withdraw his comments and tender unqualified apology. PBC also passed a resolution against Supreme Court administration in which they held, The misbehaviour and harassment of security staff deployed at entry gates of the SC building towards Members of the Bar on the pretext of security despite showing of identity cards, is highly objectionable. PBC demanded from Registrar, The PBC, therefore, requests that necessary changes be made ensuring trouble free and convenient access for members of the Bar to the Supreme Court Building under intimation to the PBC.
