RAWALPINDI Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has said that terrible attack on Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed will not affect NA-55 by-election and the polling will be held as per schedule on February 24. Salman Taseer was talking to media persons outside Lal Haveli on Tuesday after inquiring about the health of Sh Rashid who got injured in an attack on Monday last. Sh Rashid, former MPA Raja Rashid Hafeez, and Nazim Rawal Town, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, were also present on the occasion. Taseer urged the residents of Rawalpindi to take revenge of attempt on life on their well-wisher (Rashid) by stamping ballot papers in his favour on February 24. I am happy to see that Rashid, who did well for the betterment and development of Rawalpindi, is full of confidence despite an attack on him, Taseer added. The opponents should not harass the residents of the constituency by using negative tactics, Taseer said, adding they (opponents) should stop harming democratic process. We are politicians and believe in power of masses. This attack on Sh Rashid will not impinge on by-election and polling will be held as per its schedule, Taseer said. Rashid on the occasion alleged the Government of Punjab fro the deadly ambush on him, which claimed lives of his three friends. He showed his complete dissatisfaction over the inquiry being launched by Punjab Police into the case saying, Punjab Government is the real plotter of attack on me. He announced three-day mourning over the sad demise of his three guards and said he would start his election campaign again after three days. He also told that Quran Khawani would be held for the departed souls at the crime site on Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. Earlier, Salman Taseer also visited the assassination site of PPP slain chairperson Benazir Bhutto at Liaquat Bagh, offered fateha for her soul and laid down a floral wreath there. Tight security arrangements were observed to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion.
