KARACHI All MQM members in National Assembly and Senate have demanded of Central Coordination Committee to allow them to sit on the Opposition benches, because of the 'irresponsible attitude of the Sindh govt. In a joint statement, they have said that PPP is in power in the Federal and Sindh government, but the MQM workers are being deliberately targeted. The Lyari gang war elements with the support of certain influential in Sindh Government kidnapped five MQM workers and brutally killed them, they added. The target-killing of MQM workers led the party parliamentarians to demand permission to sit on the Opposition benches. The rift between two coalition parties, PPP and MQM, had widened after Ashura blast, resulting in MQM threatening to quit the coalition at the Centre. In case the MQM leaves the coalition, it will not affect much on the working of Sindh government as strength of PPP in Sindh Assembly was already much above the required number. Though, analysts are of the view that to leave the Federal government will be a major setback for PPP in National Assembly as it has not got the required number. Meanwhile, Hyder Abbas Rizvi, Deputy Parliamentary leader of MQM in National Assembly while talking to electronic media said that the government is avoiding action against Lyari gang criminals, adding that there are some elements in Sindh government who are supporting these criminals. The PPP has ties with the Peoples Peace Committee in Lyari, he added. He further said that the parliamentarians want to sit on Opposition benches in both National Assembly and Senate. He said that despite repeated reminders, the PPP government did not take notice of target-killing of MQM workers as Home Ministry and police was under their supervision. He said that despite being part of the government, the govt has failed to protect our workers; there is no logic to sit in government. He blamed that some elements sitting in PPP government are patronising the criminal of Lyari gang. Meanwhile, another senior leader of MQM Muhammad Anwar has said that MQM do not want to destabilize the government, but we will be forced to join Opposition as govt is not taking notice of target killing of our workers. He pointed out that multi-pronged conspiracies have been hatched against the MQM and to destabilise the normalcy in Karachi.
