ISLAMABAD Reviewing the audit reports of Economic Affairs Division (EAD), Food and Agriculture Division, and Livestock and Dairy Development, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday asked PASSCO to speed up the recovery process and ensure full recovery while presenting report. The Special Committee of the PAC was chaired by Zahid Hamid. The audit informed the meeting about the misuse of Rs 494,855 due to shortage of wheat. The concerned department in its response said that the matter was moved to the superior courts. Later, the Committee, on the request of the Secretary Food, referred the matter to the Ministry for further study on the subject. During the meeting, MD PASSCO informed the meeting that the original amount was Rs 21.154 million and out of that Rs 7 million had been recovered while the cases to recover over Rs 10 million were in the courts and efforts were underway for the recovery of rest of the amount. Earlier, the Committee expressed dissatisfaction for not holding Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) meetings by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and asked the Division to ensure holding of monthly meetings. Discussing the audit paras of Food and Agriculture, the Special Committee settled most of the grants with certain instructions. The audit briefed the Committee about the loss of Rs 4.86 million due to non-imposition of risk purchase clause of contract and Rs 1.87 million due to mishandling of imported plants and their subsequent disposal at low price. The Committee directing to fix responsibility gave one-month time to present its report regarding the said amount.
