PESHAWAR/UPPER?DIR - At least four civilians were killed and three others injured Thursday when a remote control bomb planted at a roadside hit a passenger van in Kala Khel area of Mattni in the outskirts of Peshawar. Meanwile, two people were killed in a bomb blast in Upper Dir. The van was on the way to Kakakhel village when it was hit by the bomb which went off with a deafening sound and completely destroyed the vehicle. Sources said that the bomb had been planted in a heap of garbage on the roadside. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ijaz Ahmed said that a remote control improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the attack, adding that apparent target was the civilians who have formed a peace lashkar in order to check activities of the militants in their respective areas. Three to four kilograms of explosive material was used in the blast, the SSP added. Edhi ambulances and local rescuers rushed toward the site and retrieved the injured persons from blast site. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, where some of the injured were stated to be in critical condition. Police also arrived at the spot and cordoned off the blast site. Police said nearby shops and a private school building was also partially damaged in the blast. The dead were identified as Noor Rahman, son of Rasheed (45), Aslam Khan, son of Khushal (55), resident of Matni, while two other persons could not identified due to high degree of mutilation. The injured were Mahboob, son of Sher Mast Khan (55), Nazeer, son of Rasheed (35), resident of Matni, and Mujahid, son of Haji Mohammad (27). The blast stir fear and panic among the residents as it was the second bomb blast in the Matani area in a week. On June 5, six people were killed and 10 injured in a bomb blast, in which a bus stand at Matani Bazzar was targeted by the militants. Meanwhile, two persons were killed in a bomb blast in Barawal area of Dir Upper district on Thursday morning. Police said a private pick-up bearing No-PSD-325 used by Dir Scouts was targeted, when a roadside-planted bomb exploded with a bang in Sabar locality at Barawal area of Dir Upper. Resultantly, two persons Gul Rahim and Ijaz were killed on the spot while the vehicle was destroyed completely. Luckily at the time of the blast, no security person of Dir Scouts was present there. Those killed in the blast belonged to Shaltalu Village, who are stated to be close relatives. Soon after the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, however, no arrest was made till filing of this report.
