President updated on nukes, missiles

ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday vowed to develop further country's missile programme and maintain a minimum nuclear deterrence in line with national security needs. Well-placed sources told TheNation that President expressed his satisfaction about the safety and security of Pakistan's nuclear assets after a special briefing given to him at the Strategic Plans Division. Meanwhile, official sources said that President Zardari was also briefed on various dimensions of Pakistan's nuclear and missile programme at Strategic Plans Division, which is the Secretariat of the National Command Authority. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Tariq Majid, senior officers of SPD and some relevant ministries also attended the briefing. The President also had a meeting with the Chairman JCSC for sometime and discussed matters pertaining to the armed forces. Earlier, on arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, the Chairman JCSC General Tariq Majid received the President. A smart contingent of the Armed Forces presented the guard of honour to the President, the sources said.
