US special envoy Richard Holbrooke arrived in Kabul Thursday, on the second leg of a maiden tour aimed at turning around the war against Islamist militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Holbrooke flew in from Pakistan to tight security in the Afghan capital, one day after triple Taliban attacks on government offices killed 26 people and left eight attackers dead -- three of them in suicide blasts. US embassy spokesman Mark Stroh confirmed Holbrooke's arrival. The envoy is expected to visit a range of international and Afghan authorities, but details of his itinerary were not released.
