KARACHI - A CID Inspector and in-charge of Joint Investigation Cell of Crime Investigation Department Nasir Khan Baloch was killed on Saturday morning in the jurisdiction of Kharadar police station, while police termed it an incident of target killing. He was found dead in his car (no SP 0491) at Kharadar Police Station area on which he was shifted to the Civil Hospital where the Medico-Legal Department of the hospital disclosed that the deceased has sustained two bullets, one on his head and another on his cheek. The police officials suspect that Lyaris prominent gangster Rehman Dacoit might have killed him. The deceased was a senior police official who had joined police on March 10, 1990, as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). Later, he was posted to CID police in 1993. Nasir Baloch was known as one of the efficient members of the CID SSP Fayyaz Khans team and had also played a vital role in investigating all high profile cases of sectarianism, terrorism and Lyari gang war. On Saturday around 12:05am he went to Lyari for an official work. Later, the Kharadar police found his bullet-riddled body from his car after being informed by area people. SSP Fayyaz Khan said that the deceased was kidnapped and tortured brutally, and later he was shot dead. The deceased played a key role in the arrest of Usman Kurd, a senior leader and a mastermind of the banned religious outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) who was arrested in 1994, added Fayyaz Khan. He further said that the one of the achievements of Nasir Baloch was that he probed into the murder case of Daniel Pearl, moreover, he also helped arresting Lyari gangster Arshad Pappu and was also a complainant of the case. He was a resident of Kalakot, Lyari and was presently residing in Police officers housing society in Garden Headquarters. He has left behind two daughters, one son, and a widow. Meanwhile, his Namaz-i-Janaza was offered at Garden police Headquarter where scores of his relatives and police officials were present. Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Babar Khattak has announced Rs two million as compensation money for his family and promised to give employment to one of his family members in the police. The FIR was registered in Kharadar police station against unknown persons.
