PESHAWAR - At least four persons were killed and over 50 injured as a result of a suicide attack on the main gate of Khan Quyoom Stadium in Peshawar on Tuesday. A player from Dera Ismail Khan was amongst the killed. The suicide attack was perpetrated a few moments after the concluding ceremony of the 3rd Inter-Provincial Games. NWFP Governor Awais Ghani along with Senior Provincial Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour and Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain had left the stadium a little before the suicide attack. As per details, a suicide bomber blew himself up with explosives on the main gate of Khan Quyoom Stadium when the concluding ceremony was nearing its rnf. Police personnel present on the occasion said that there was complete dust and dark on the main gate after the explosion. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. The doctors in LRH confirmed that several injured persons were admitted to the hospital where the condition of some was stated to be precarious. The killed persons included a teenage boy. One Jamil Amjad from Dera Ismail Khan was also killed in the explosion. Police authorities informed that both the legs along with an arm of the suicide bomber had been found and shifted to a hospital for further investigation. The bomber, according to police, used five to seven kilogram of explosive, which besides causing loss of precious human beings also damaged a number of vehicles. NWFP Sports and Culture Minister Syed Aqil Shah soon after the suicide explosion rushed to Lady Reading Hospital and enquired after the health of the injured. Talking to The Nation, Aqil Shah strongly condemned the bomb blast and said that the suicide attacks were inhuman and cowardly acts. He said that despite red alert security it was impossible to control the suicide attacks. It may be mentioned here that three-day Inter Provincial Games commenced from Sunday and it was participated by 1500 players from all over the country. In this respect, the NWFP Government had made tight security arrangements in and around the stadium.
