3 Nato troops die in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR (AFP) - Two Taliban-style suicide blasts struck Afghanistan Thursday, killing at least four Afghans and wounding about a dozen more, government officials said. In one attack, a suicide car bomb tried to ram a convoy of private security guards in the tense southern city of Kandahar, killing two Afghan civilian passers-by, a governor's spokesman said. The Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the attack. "There was a suicide car bomb attack against one vehicle of a private security company of a construction company in Kandahar city," provincial government spokesman Zalmai Ayobi told AFP. "Two civilians were killed and six were wounded," he said. A witness said that one of the dead was a boy on his way to school and the other was an adult male. A second suicide bomber Thursday struck the small centre of Khash Rod in the southwestern province of Nimroz and killed two more people, provincial governor Ghulam Dastagir Azad told AFP. "One policeman and a civilian who was going to mosque were killed. Seven other civilians who were going to mosque were injured and two of them are in serious condition," he said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Meanwhile, two international soldiers fighting Taliban-linked insurgents were killed in Afghanistan Thursday, their forces said, as Britain announced one of its troops had died a day earlier. A soldier with Nato's ISAF was killed in eastern Afghanistan, Isaf in a statement that did not give the trooper's nationality. Most int'l soldiers in the east are US nationals. The soldiers died in an attack on a "combat post", an ISAF media officer said. The separate US-led coalition, which is mainly US soldiers and announced separately.  that another trooper was killed "while conducting combat operations", also in the east of the country. It did not release a nationality. The British Ministry of Defence said meanwhile that one of its soldiers had died Wednesday in an explosion in the southern province of Helmand. The ministry said it was investigating the cause of the fatal blast in restive Helmand where most of the 7,800 British troops in Afghanistan are based. "The soldier was on routine patrol duties near Musa Qala when he was killed in a contact explosion," it said.
