ISLAMABAD - The Abbottabad Commission has summoned Pakistans High Commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan in the last week of December. According to an official statement, Wajid Shamsul Hasan has been summoned to explain comments he made in a recent interview. The high commissioner had said that it might be possible that Pakistani leadership was aware of the May 2 operation of US special forces in which Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was killed in his Abbottabad compound. The commission, which met here i at the Cabinet Division with Justice (R) Javed Iqbal in the chair, also heard opinions of legal experts Wasim Sajjad, Justice (R) Nasira Iqbal and SM Zafar. On the other hand, Wajid Shamsul Hassan said he had not received any summons from the Abbottabad Commission so far. He said the commission could not summon him directly and only the Foreign Office could call him. He said he would respond when he would receive summons from the Foreign Office. It is important to mention here that Wajid Shamsul Hassan had refused to attend the envoys and high commissioners conference in Islamabad which commenced on Monday, fearing that he might not be allowed to leave Pakistan. Therefore, it is expected that the high commissioner is unlikely to come to Islamabad despite being summoned by the Abbottabad Commission. An Indian TV channel a few days ago had telecast an interview of Wajid Shamsul Hassan after the May 2 incident in which he had claimed that the Pakistan government was aware of the operation and Osamas presence in the area was known 10 days before the operation. The Abbottabad Commission will question former Pakistani ambassador to US Husain Haqqani tomorrow.
