4 cops die in Hangu attack

HANGU - At least four persons were killed and six others including Station House Officer (SHO) were injured when a police mobile van came under attack of Taliban miscreants at Mamoon Khawar near Hangu on Friday morning. Eyewitnesses and police officials while confirming the attack said that the nature of the assault was yet to be determined. Someone believed that it was a suicide attack, whereas the police officials termed it attack with the help of Improvised Explosive Device (IED). As a result of attack, four persons were killed on the spot and six others injured. The injured including the SHO were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, where the condition of several of them was stated to be precarious. The killed persons were identified as Frontier Constabularys Head Constable Delawar Khan, Police driver Haroon Shah, and Constables Salim and Shah Nawaz. The injured besides SHO Yaqoob Khan also included Shakeel, Noor Mohammad, Adnan, Zahoor and Sajjad. The officials at Hangu also informed that another IED attack against the police vehicle occurred at Sarokhel. However, no loss of life was reported as the explosive went off after passing of the police vehicle. Soon after the attack, the police contingents rushed to the scene of the occurrence and cordoned off the area. So far no one has claimed the responsibility for the attack. It may be mentioned here that one day back the security forces conducted an operation against Taliban militants in Hangu and Aurakzai Agency. Besides others a local leader of Jamiat Ul Ulema Islam (F) was also included amongst the killed persons.
