Proposal sent to get ministrys nod

ISLAMABAD - The ministry of water and power has sent the proposal of increasing power tariff to the law ministry for vetting and the notification would be issued as soon as the related ministry goes through the draft and approves it. An official of ministry of water and power said that it was a legal binding that these decisions could not be taken without approval from the law ministry, adding Nepra itself could not take such decisions. But he said that the draft would definitely be approved and the masses must be ready for the increase every month till June. He also said that the masses were going to face more than six per cent raise in electricity price in June as dividing the raise into slabs would automatically increase the tariff more than the said figure. He said that the government had neither any way out nor it had the ability to avoid the power tariff hike. International Monetary Fund is very much concerned over budgetary reforms and decreasing budget deficit by the government. It is also pertinent to mention here that cost of electricity is going to increase as well with the passage of time because only hydel projects can decrease the cost of production of power and no such project has been started.
