Aitzaz asks govt to seek Swiss cases reopening

ISLAMABAD Aitzaz Ahsan has backed the Supreme Court verdict on NRO asking the government to implement the Supreme Courts December 16 judgment on National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and write a letter to the Swiss authorities for the reopening of cases. Former president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Aitzaz, remarked this while talking to journalists in the Supreme Court building here on Wednesday. He said that in his view it would have been better had the government, instead of wasting time, written a letter to the Swiss court. He mentioned that the cases in the Swiss Court are against three persons President Asif Ali Zardari, Nusrat Bhutto and late Benazir Bhutto, who was twice prime minister of Pakistan. However, Aitizaz was of the view that the Swiss Court could not open cases against Benazir Bhutto as she is no more in this world, while Nusrat Bhutto is sick and on the bed for the last one-and-a-half years, and Asif Ali Zardari being the President of Pakistan has immunity under the international law, and in Pakistan he has protection under Article 248 of the Constitution. He said that Benazir Bhutto was an eminent personality in the politics of Pakistan and demanded of the incumbent government to expose the culprits behind her murder. If the PPP government fails to bring justice to those who have killed her then in the next elections it would be very difficult for the PPP to win. To a query, he replied, There are many flaws in the United Nations report as many questions have not yet been answered. The UN team has not recorded the statements of those who had ordered to hose down Benazirs murder site. Aitzaz said former President General Pervez Musharraf would not dare to come back to Pakistan, but added the government should bring him back and try him under Article 6 of the Constitution. He expressed regret over the May 12, 2007 incident in which 45 people were killed and over hundred people got injured.
