Howitzer guns handed over to Pak Army

KARACHI-The US Army handed over Howitzer guns to Pakistan Army, at a simple but impressive ceremony held here on Saturday. Brigadier Michael K. Ngata, Deputy Chief ODRP handed over 115 pieces of Howitzer guns to Brigadier Farrukh Saeed, Commander Artillery Mechanised Division. This US made M109A5 Howitzer is an indirect fire support weapon of maneuver brigades of Armoured and Mechanized infantry divisions. It has a crew of 6 personnel and is currently in use with armies in Egypt, Pakistan, Portugal, Thailand, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Italy, Israel, Greece and Spain. Its characteristics such as high muzzle velocity, Jong barrels, long range, multiple charges and maximum elevation angles (greater than 45 degrees) classifies it as an effective weapon in the field. The ceremony was attended by the US Consul General in Karachi Steve Fakan, officers of US Armed Forces and officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army.
