More officials 'taken' hostage

Taliban in Hangu have claimed abducting more officials during last 24 hours, and arranged a telephonic conversation of the kindnapped persons with the BBC Urdu on Sunday. The abductees include a Major of Frontier Constabulary, a cashier of a National Savings Institute and an employee of National Bank. Thus, the number of the abducted officials in Hangu reached to 50. However, independent sources didn't confirm the claim made by Taliban. Talking to BBC, cashier of a National Saving Institute, Amin Jan, said that he was going to Saddah from Kohat in a passenger coach when Taliban took him away. He said that five other people were already present in the house he was kept in, but now there were about 50 persons. Amin said that the abductees belong to different government departments including Wapda, banks and security forces.    Another abducted FC Major Shoaib said that he belonged to Mardan and was kidnapped as he was heading for home. The hostages demanded of the govt to hold talks with Taliban and release their accomplices. A Taliban spokesman said that they were in contact with the government through a tribal jirga and trying to get their men freed.
