Doctors close OPDs across country to show solidarity with Quettas doctors

Showing solidarity with Quettas doctors against brutal action by police on Tuesday, Out-patient Departments (OPDs) in major government hospitals remained close across the country on Wednesday. The out-patient departments (OPDs) in all major hospitals in Lahore were shut down on the call of Young Doctors Association (YDA) to protest against manhandling of doctors in Quetta. Patients in OPDs suffered as doctors were not attending them. However, patients in Emergency were getting doctors attention. In Quetta, the Civil Hospital doctors set up tents to check the emergency patients. On the other hand, despite the order of the government, none of the fresh doctors has reported to the hospitals so far. In Peshawar, doctors in Leady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex observed a token strike. Out-patient departments in all hospitals were shut down for two hours. In Karachi, doctors were working in hospitals by wearing black armbands to show solidarity with their colleagues. They were of the view that they could not participate in the protest due to current law and order situation in the city.
