Terrorists attack Peshawar again

PESHAWAR At least 11 persons were killed and more than 28 injured in a suicide attack carried out with the help of an explosive-laden car at a police check post in Pishtakhara Payan, Peshawar suburban area, here on Saturday. According to police sources, which confirmed it to be a suicide attack and in which artillery shells were also used, the blast occurred when a car coming from Ring Road was flagged down at the police check post of Pishtakhara Payan. The suicide bomber in the car blew himself up along with the vehicle, resulting in the death of at least 11 persons, including one policeman, on the spot and the injury of 28 persons. The blast also completely damaged 8 vehicles close to the spot of the attack. Chief Capital Police Officer (CCPO) Liaqat Ali Khan while talking to media men said that according to initial inquiry, 50 kg explosives were used in the attack, which were laden in an Alto car. He said that when a police personnel was about to check the car, the explosion occurred by rendering his life, the policeman saved the city from a huge devastation. He said that security personnel have set a new example of sacrifice to save people from a big havoc. The injured persons were rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), and Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Peshawar wherein several of them were said to be in critical condition. Among the 11 dead people, five dead bodies were taken to KTH, which besides an elderly man named Amirullah and a young lad Adnan also included a two-and-a-half year-old child, two women, and a policeman. Two dead bodies were taken to LRH, and two were brought to HMC. Police cordoned off the site of the blast, stopping any entry into the area. TheNation also learnt that the engine of the vehicle was found which was taken into custody by security personnel. According to District Coordination Officer (DCO) Peshawar Sahibzada Anees, who also confirmed the blast to be a suicide attack, said that suburban areas were more prone to such attacks as they are closer to the tribal areas. He said that it was incorrect to call it a security lapse because due to the security arrangements any kind of major activities were prevented in the city. Provincial Minister for Communication Mian Iftikhar Hussain while talking to media persons said that there certainly would be a reaction as they were in a state of war. He further said that they were taking steps for the security of citizens and added that in this war they had also captured explosive-laden vehicles apart from capturing suicide bombers, which were successes against terrorists. Mr. Iftikhar added that they were fighting terrorists which was a 'jihad and that they would never yield their land and people to the clutches of terrorists and would render every sacrifice in this fight. Senior Provincial Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour said that they couldnt hold any talks with those killing people and innocent children and maintained that they were not afraid and with the help of masses and Army they would definitely succeed against terrorists. He continued, saying that the province was surrounded by territory from FATA and there would be reaction of the action taken against militants and resolved that they would fight them to the last. Mr. Bilour, answering a question as to where resources and ammunition were coming to the terrorists from, said that it was indicative that foreign hands were involved in such acts and those perpetrating such heinous acts were playing into the hands of these foreign elements. He said that terrorists were void of any religion, any nation, and were barbarians perpetrating crimes against humanity. NWFP Governor, Mr. Owais Ahmed Ghani has strongly condemned the suicide car bomb blast at Pishtakhara in Peshawar and expressed his deep shock and sorrow over the loss of precious lives. The Governor has described the incident as a highly cowardly act of terrorism. In a condolence message, the Governor said the incident itself speaks of the barbaric and retrogressive mindset of the miscreants involved in such inhuman acts of extremism. Targeting security forces and killing innocent citizens shows the state of frustration the elements are in. Such elements, he added, are the enemies of the country and would never succeed in their nefarious designs. While expressing his heartfelt sympathies with members of the bereaved families, the Governor assured that the elements involved in such heinous crimes would be brought to justice shortly. He also asked the people to fully cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to ensure lasting peace in the area. He also prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls, courage for the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with patience, and early recovery of the injured. NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti also strongly condemned the suicide bomb blast at Pishtakhara Chowk Peshawar, and termed it as a coward and brutal act on part of the terrorists, adding that the terrorists while anticipating their defeat, were attacking innocent people in desperation, but these acts of terrorism cannot shake the resolve of the Government to fight them till the last. The Chief Minister expressed strong feelings of sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives and sympathies with the affected families, and prayed for quick recovery of the injured. PPP-S Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Provincial President of the party Sikandar Sherpao also condemned the blast in Pishtakhara and termed it as act of barbarity committed to make chaos prevail in society.
