ISLAMABAD - The high-ups of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday dismissed media reports that one of its Directors Hussain Asghar was being removed from the Haj investigations saying that the administration had not issued any notification in this regard. Hussain Asghar is the investigation officer of FIAs team investigating mismanagement in Haj affairs and currently he is heading the investigations after Additional Director General (ADG) FIA Syed Javed Bukhari had gone abroad after getting long leave from the administration. Javed Bukhari is reportedly in Canada and FIA officials are describing it as the rare chances that Bukhari will come back and rejoin as the head of the Haj investigations. Director General (DG) FIA Waseem Ahmed while talking to The Nation confirmed that Hussain Asghar had not been removed from the Haj investigations and he would continue as the investigation officer of this case. The sources in FIA informed that the administration wanted to bring some administrative changes in the agency, however, Hussain Asghar would continue as investigation officer of the Haj scam irrespective of the fact he would hold the charge as Director Interpol or be posted as Director Administration. The sources also informed that such kind of decision never remained in the pipeline of the agency to remove Hussain Asghar from the Haj investigations. Some rumours were rife in FIA Headquarters on Monday about the removal of Hussain Asghar from Haj investigations after he had issued summons for Abdul Qadir Gilani, the son of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in the mega Haj corruption scandal. Asghar had also obtained arrest warrants for former Religious Affairs Minister from a local court and conducted a raid at his residence in the capital during investigations of the scam. Meanwhile, ADG FIA Javed Bukhari has gone on long leave on the pretext of the sickness of his wife. The source have revealed that in fact Bukhari succumbed to the pressure of Interior Ministry bosses while investigating the Haj scam and has finally decided to stay away from the investigations. An official of the agency on the condition of anonymity said that the Interior Ministry bosses wanted that Bukhari should probe the case as they desired Sources privy to the developments informed that Javed Bukhari had also written a letter to Secretary Interior to disassociate him from the Haj investigations after Supreme Court had raised objections that how he could investigate the case independently while working under the supervision of DG FIA Waseem Ahmed.
