Punjab united against terrorism

LAHORE-The Punjab Assembly in its 13th session on Monday passed a unanimous resolution condemning recent wave of terrorism in the country and termed it a conspiracy against Islam and Pakistan. The resolution, jointly moved by the Treasury and the Opposition, described loss of precious human lives as a result of terrorist activities a national tragedy, and suspected involvement of secret hand in the incidents which, it said, needed to be uncovered. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah moved the resolution in the House, which also bore the signatures of Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad and Opposition Leader, Ch Zaheeruddin. Condemning the terrorist attacks at Manawan Police Centre and Rescue 15 buildings, the House, in the said resolution, paid glowing tributes to police officials who embraced martyrdom while resisting the terrorists in various incidents. It also appreciated performance of Punjab police and expressed sorrow over loss of precious lives of the police officials. The PA denounced acts of terrorism taking place else where in the country including those at D.I. Khan and Nowshehra. The Assembly members termed the martyrdom of head of Jamia Naeemia, Dr. Sarfraz Naeemi an irreparable loss not only for Pakistan but also for whole of Muslim world. 'Late Naeemi was a moderate, simple and non-controversial religious personality widely respected among followers of other schools of thought, they further observed in the resolution. The House also expressed complete solidarity with Pakistan Army and supported the ongoing military drive against the terrorists. It saluted the martyrs of Pakistan Army and assured its jawans and officers that entire nation was standing alongwith them. Meanwhile, through another resolution, the House expressed grief over the sad demise of member Punjab Assembly, Ghazala Farhat and condoled her death with the bereaved family. The House also offered Fateha for all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives as a result of terrorist attacks at Manawan Police Centre, Rescue 15 building and Jamia Naeemia. Earlier, the Punjab Assembly session started after an unprecedented delay of two hours and 20 minutes. It was scheduled to meet at 3pm, but legislators arrived late due to security steps. The govt had taken extraordinary security measures for the budget session. The entry of visitors was strictly prohibited. Even the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Ministers and other Assembly members were not allowed to park their vehicles inside the Assembly building. They reached assembly on foot after parking their cars at a specified parking place nearby.
