Political workers among 7 gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI - Seven people, including activists of MQM, ANP and MQM-H, and a police officer were shot dead in different localities here on Saturday. According to details, a 37-year-old MQM worker identified as Malik Ayub was killed and another wounded in a firing incident near Daak Khana Stop in the jurisdiction of Liaquatabad Police Station. Police said the victim was at his paint shop where unidentified culprits targeted him. The body and an injured, Warsi, were moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A score of MQM workers reached the hospital on hearing the news. The deceased was a resident of New Karachi area and also member of MQM, New Karachi Sector. A Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi worker identified as Abdullah Ansari was gunned down in Malir Tanki area within the jurisdiction of Khokhrapar Police Station. Police said that two more activists were with Ansari, and they went missing since the attack. Separately, an activist of Awami National Party was killed in Sherpao Colony within the limits of Quaidabad Police Station. Najeeb Ahmed, son of Asad, was the guard of ANP District Malir chief security officer Jamal Khan Afridi. His body was moved to his hometown Peshawar for burial. A youth was shot dead near Shah Faisal Riverbed within the limits of Sharafi Goth Police Station. His body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was identified as 23-year-old Imran, son of Ameen, resident of Korangi No 3. Also, a young man Ali Ahmed Baloch was gunned down near Saturday Bazaar in the limits of Sachal Police Station. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was gunned down while another injured in Block Z in the limits of Gulshan-e-Maymar Police Station. 40-year-old Azam Jakhrani, son of Saadi Khan Jakhrani, was standing outside his relatives house situated at Block Z Maymar, Gadap Town, when unidentified armed men reached his car and opened indiscriminate firing on him. He received six bullets, while his neighbour Tariq also sustained injuries. Police shifted them into Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities where during treatment Azam succumbed to his injuries. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said the ASI was deployed in Jacobabad, Sindh and he reached Karachi to meet his relatives. Separately, a cop of Sindh Reserves Police was gunned down when offered resistance in a robbery bid near Sea View Beach in the limits of Darakhshan Police Station. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). SHO Tariq Imran said victim was deployed in Hassan Square; left a son and widow behind.
