President, COAS discuss issues

ISLAMABAD President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ishfaq Pervez Kayani held a detailed meeting at Presidency on Wednesday night to discuss the overall political and law and order situation in the country at the time when the Supreme Court was writing down its verdict in the NRO. The meeting take place soon after the meeting of US Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Admiral Mike Mullen, with President Zardari and it was for the first time that both the leaders had held one-on-one meeting. Meanwhile, President Zardari, who is also PPP Co-Chairman, has summoned the partys CEC meeting on Dec 19 to discuss the scenario shaping up after the court verdict. Party sources further informed that Chairman of the party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would also be attending this crucial meeting. Meanwhile, close aides of the President gathered at Presidency soon after the SC verdict. The PPP sources informed TheNation that the initial reaction of the party was that they would defend the cases against them in the courts of law without quitting their official positions as, according to them, all the cases instituted against the PPP leadership were politically motivated, false and fabricated. The political circles are according special significance to the meeting between the Army Chief and President which was first one on one meeting between the two after a long time since both were not comfortable with each other over the past several months.
