PPP Punjab ministers brief President

ISLAMABAD - A meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party Punjab was held with President Asif Ali Zardari in chair and matters relating to the party affairs in Punjab with special reference to its relations with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) came under discussion. PPP Punjab Chapter meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, a day before his meeting with PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif at a luncheon reception being held today (Friday) in Raiwind at Mian Nawaz Sharifs residence, has acquired special significance and there would be a strong reflection of the deliberations of the meeting in talks between the heads of the two major political forces in the country. The sources in the party disclosed that President Asif Ali Zardari discussed party matters with the leadership of Punjab Chapter and also listened to their problems with their own ministers in the Punjab Cabinet and the overall problems they were facing. The sources informed that the participants of the meeting opened up a plethora of complaints against the party ministers in the Punjab government and termed them powerless. According to them, the PPP ministers position was worse even than the days of the dictator, as now they were answerable to their voters because of their presence in the Punjab government. They said that even their petty issues at district and tehsil levels were not resolved and it seemed as if their ministers in the Punjab government were helpless as they were. The sources further said that President Asif Ali Zardari calmed them down and assured that he would take up these issues with PML-N leadership and would also ask PPP ministers in the Punjab Cabinet to pay due attention towards resolving the problems of the party workers and activists. The sources further said that though there was no declared agenda for today (Friday) meeting between the two sides yet the issues of constitutional amendments, the Punjab Cabinet expansion, allocation of job quota and quota in the political committees at the district and tehsil levels would figure in the meeting. The sources further said that though PPP was committed to the implementation of Charter of Democracy in letter and spirit yet the party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari was not going to commit anything with the PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif as the matter was with the Parliamentary Committee dealing with the constitutional amendments. The sources further said that as most of the parties, which are part of the Parliamentary Committee on constitutional reforms, were not the signatory of the CoD, so their input on the agreement would be given due considerations and the chances of its implementation in totality was not likely. So is the matter of constitutional reforms, including revoking of 17th Amendment and Article 58(2)-B, as these two controversial issues were linked to a lot many other controversial matters and bringing a lot with divergent views on these issues was an uphill task.
