ISLAMABAD The Supreme Court was moved on Tuesday for immediate construction of Kalabagh Dam (KBD). The petition was filed by Advocate Azam Khan Sultanpuri, who made Federal and Provincial Govts, MNAs and senators parties in his application. Advocate Sultanpuri argued that World Bank had pledged to fund dams in Pakistan at the time of Indus Basin Treaty. However, these projects were ignored due to political compulsions, he said. He contended that the ongoing floods proved that the deluge could have been averted, had there Kalabagh Dam been constructed. The petition urged the apex court to order immediate construction of Kalabagh Dam so that flood-like natural catastrophe could be prevented in future.
