Syed Ali Gilani is kept in a cage, being treated like animal

In occupied Kashmir, the lawyers of illegally detained veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani have told a court in Srinagar that 80-year old leader has been kept in a cage and is being treated like an animal. According to Kashmir Media Service, the petitions submitted by Syed Ali Gilani's counsels, M Ashraf Butt and Mian Muzaffar, challenging the arrest of the veteran Hurriyet leader and pleading for his shifting from Cheshmashahi sub-jail to Srinagar Central jail came up for hearing before Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain. "The 80-year old person has been kept in a cage called Cheshmashahi sub-jail and is being treated like an animal. The government of India and its authorities here want to break his resolve and change his mental makeup," the counsels told the court. They said that keeping Syed Ali Gilani at the sub-jail was equivalent to treating him like an animal. They pleaded before the court that his lawyers should be allowed to meet him. They also demanded the production of the medical report of the doctors, who examined the veteran Hurriyet leader. After hearing both the sides and taking on record the objections submitted by the authorities, Justice Hakim Imtiyaz directed the authorities to submit and make available the medical report of the doctors, who have so far examined Syed Ali Gilani at the sub-jail. Syed Ali Gilani along with another Hurriyet leader, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai was detained on June 20 by Kupwara police minutes after they addressed a public gathering in the town. Subsequently, on June 23, he was booked under the draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA) and lodged at sub-jail Cheshmashahi, Srinagar.
