Economy stabilising: PM

ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the Government is determined to strengthen the economy and has taken various short, medium, and long-term measures to bring positive change. And on the top of it, the Governments tight monetary policy is responsible for stabilising the economy and brining down inflation. Talking to a group of Parliamentarians here at his Parliaments Chamber on Thursday afternoon, the Prime Minister said as a result of economic reforms introduced by the Government, the economy has worn stable outlook. The rationalisation of fiscal policy formulation and its institutional execution, the Premier said, is the hallmark of Governments agenda to achieve the desired ends. The continuity of policies holds the key to viable economic growth and prosperity, the Prime Minister emphasised. The Prime Minister said that restoration of peace is essential for sustainable economic growth in the country. He said that the confidence of investors has been restored and they are taking interest to invest in various fields due to timely measures taken by the Government. He said that the public and private collaboration would help generate employment opportunities, which would offer long-term solution to address unemployment problem in the country. The Prime Minister urged the Parliamentarians to keep close contact with the people of their respective constituencies so that their needs could be better understood and an affirmative action could be taken to resolve them. It is the duty of the elected representatives, he added, to monitor the ongoing projects in their areas to facilitate their smooth and timely completion. He said that elected representatives oversight role was important to stop the wastage of public funds and ensure early completion of the projects. The Prime Minister said that the Government has made an endeavour in the current budget to give some relief to the downtrodden sections of the society by increasing allocation for the Benazir Income Support Programme, which targets the poorest of society. The Parliamentarians included Senators, Ms Kalsoom Parveen, Ms Gulshan Saeed, Ms Rehana Yahya Baloch and MNA, Mr Jahangir Tareen.
