Kashmir solution indispensable: PM

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, while reiterating Pakistans principled stand on the Kashmir issue, said that the Kashmir dispute would continue to remain relevant to the world due to its strategic importance, as it depends largely upon the resolution of this intractable dispute that the peace and development of the entire South Asian region hinges. The Premier was talking to Prime Minister of AJK Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider, who called on him at PMs House here on Monday. PM Gilani emphasised that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people, could help efforts for peace and economic stability in this part of the world. He said Pakistan would continue extending its political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir, adding that the whole nation was united on this issue. The Prime Minister was also briefed on the progress of ongoing development activities in AJK. The PM asked the AJK Government to focus its energies on the improvement of the living standard of the people by promoting good governance at all levels. He said that the funds, allocated for the development projects in AJK, would be timely released and these should be diligently utilized so that the benefit could reach the masses in time. He stressed that effective surveillance of the ongoing development activities by the elected representatives would help improve in its execution of various projects. Highlighting the importance of reconciliation and consensus on various important issues, the Prime Minister said that it not only helped in formulation of effective strategies to overcome the difficulties, but also provided political ownership during their execution. He added that the policy of collective wisdom should be the hallmark of AJK Government, in resolution of various issues. The Prime Minister asked both the Ministry of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs and Govt of AJK to increase their coordination through increased mutual interaction. This, he said, would facilitate their working for effective delivery of services through greater understanding that would in turn benefit the masses. The Prime Minister said that he would soon visit AJK. Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider appreciated the Prime Minister for his endeavours in raising the issue of Kashmir at every forum. He also thanked the Government and people of Pakistan for their untainted support towards their Kashmiri brethren. Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo and senior government officials were also present on this occasion.
