ANP, MQM indulge in war of words

KARACHI Amid the ongoing blame game between MQM and ANP, the metropolis remained buzzed with rumours here on Sunday. MQM Coordination Committee condemned killings in Karachi while alleging that ANP and Peoples Aman Committee were involved in the ongoing spate of violence in the metropolis. MQM Coordination Committee, in a statement after ANPs announcement to boycott elections in Orangi Town, said ANP and so-called Peoples Aman Committee had unleashed bloodshed in the city to create fear among people and sabotage the by-elections. The statement said that 25 innocent citizens including MQM workers had been killed in violence but no one had provided protection to the life and property of the citizens. ANP Sindh chapter congratulated the saner elements of PS-94 for making the boycott of by-elections successful, said the party spokesman in a statement issued here on Sunday evening. He termed what he called the victory of Thappa Mafia, as the defeat of Governments indecisiveness. Thappa mafia has polled bogus votes in favour of Pir Raiz Gul with a view to avoid moral defeat, the ANP spokesman added. Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad rushed to Islamabad where he would meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold discussion on current political turmoil. Source privy to the matter told TheNation that the MQM leadership in London and Karachi was considering all possible options including the resignation from Sindh governorship and separation from the coalition Government. He said Pakistan Peoples Party was observing the situation and trying to keep the coalition partners intact. Senator Faisal Raza Abidi has reportedly termed the current situation of Karachi as a conspiracy hatched by some anti state elements. He said that all the three-coalition partners of Sindh Government, including ANP, MQM and PPP, had the same ideology. The killings of activists of all the coalition partners had pinpointed the involvement of another party. Abidi indicated the involvement of extremist elements who had been found involved in bomb blasts and other such criminal activities.
