Bomber strikes Kohat again

KOHAT At least seven persons were killed and 32 others got injured when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle near Belly Tang Police Station on Sunday. According to details, seven persons including a child were killed and 32 others received injuries when an explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into a tractor parked near Belly Tang Police Station in district Kohat on Rawalpindi Road at about 07:15 a.m. The buildings of the police station and a primary school situated nearby were also destroyed in the suicide attack. The injured including five policemen were shifted to District Headquarter Hospital, Kohat, and, according to the hospital sources, condition of several injured persons was stated to be critical. The sources in bomb disposal squad informed that about 250 kg explosive material was used in the attack. The security forces cordoned off the area and started rescue activities. The blast caused a several feet deep crater. Talking to media persons at the site of the blast, Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdullah Khan said that the blasts could be a reaction of the ongoing military operation in tribal areas of the country. Some proofs indicate that tribal people were involved in these attacks, he added. He said the security had been tightened in the area and security forces were cooperating with the police. Militants were regularly targeting security forces in frustration, he added. According to the DPO Dilawar Khan, the police station was the target of the attack but the vehicle exploded before hitting its target as it collided with a vehicle parked near the police station. He added that the injured also included policemen and some of them were in serious condition. It is worth mentioning here that it was the second attack on the same police station as it was struck by a suicide bomber last year, killing several policemen and civilians, and the building was rebuilt recently. It was the second attack in the volatile region in as many days. On Saturday, two suicide bombers in Kohat attacked people displaced by fighting between the army and militants, killing 41 and wounding 65.
