5 cops relieved from Punjab

LAHORE In pursuance of the Federal Governments action against the govt officials since the issuance of UN report about Benazir Bhuttos murder, the Punjab govt has relieved five senior police officers of their duties with the provincial administration and have directed them to report to the Establishment Division for further orders. On the other hand, Secretary Food Department Irfan Elahi is still working, and he has neither been made Officer on Special Duty nor directed to report to the Federal govt. Five senior cops, who have been directed to report to the Establishment Division, include Additional Inspector General of Police, Investigation Branch, Punjab Abdul Majeed, City Police Officer Multan Saud Aziz, SSP Operations Rawalpindi Yasin Farooq Sheikh, SSP Investigation, Gujranwala Khurram Shahzad Haider and Additional SP Saddar Division Rawalpindi Syed Ashfaq Anwar. About Irfan Elahi - who was District Coordination Officer Rawalpindi when Benazir Bhutto was murdered on December 27, 2007 - the Punjab government is said to be resisting the decision of the Federal government owing to the reason that the wheat procurement would start in the Punjab on Tuesday (today), and he is said to be the brain behind the procurement, like the previous year. The sources have also confided that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif would have talked to the Prime Minister on Monday since the CM was there in Islamabad to attend a meeting regarding the electricity crisis. 'There is no way that the provincial government can hold him (Irfan Elahi) back since it is not an ordinary issue. However, his departure from the Punjab could be delayed for about four weeks or as long as the wheat procurement is continuing, maintained a senior officer, seeking anonymity.
