Commission okays IHC judges

ISLAMABAD - The eight-member Parliamentary Committee on Sunday gave approval to the nomination of Iqbal Hamidur Rehman as Chief Justice of newly established Islamabad High Court (IHC). The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Committee and Leader of the House in Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari. The Committee also approved names of Riaz Ahmed Khan and Tariq Kasi for the slots of judges in the Islamabad High Court. In the previous meeting, Nayyar Bokhari deferred the matter as the members had difference of opinion on the subject, as some of the members were of the view that the appointment of Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court be made first and the recommendation of two judges of the same court along with the Chief Justice by the Judicial Commission was not correct. Newly appointed Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Iqbal Hamidur Rehman, is the son of the noted (late) Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Hamoodur Rehman. The eight-member Parliamentary Committee, which has given these approvals, comprised Senators Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Ishaq Dar, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari (Chairman) and Sabir Baloch and MNAs Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Ghous Bux Mehar, Aftab Shaban Mirani and Asma Arbab Alamgir.
