ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday briefed the President Asif Ali Zardari about the 'consensus evolved during his three-hour long meeting with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to resolve pending issues of the judiciary. An official handout stated, Current situation was discussed during the meeting, while well-placed sources informed that Prime Minister apprised the President in detail of his efforts to overcome the crisis-like situation. Appreciating Premier Gilanis key role in bridging gaps between the judiciary and the Executive, the President assured his full support in strengthening democratic values and institutions. According to the sources, the President also backed the Prime Ministers stance of correcting the Government where it went wrong. Meanwhile in his capacity as Co-Chairman of the ruling party, the President told office-bearers from Chakwal that the PPP would continue its forward march to strengthen democracy and state institutions, and put Pakistan back on the track of socio-economic progress. According to the President, the economy was showing signs of improvement and the nation was on its way to overcome its difficulties. The President said the PPP would seek to take a collective decision on the nature of Local Bodies polls with coalition partners in all the provinces. According to the President, the 2010 is the local bodies elections year and asked the party workers to gear themselves for the forthcoming local bodies elections. The President said that 'local bodies was a provincial subject but we aim at bringing all the provinces to a common approach. The President on this occasion directed Raja Pervaz Asharaf for finalising the list of candidates for local bodies election in the next few weeks so that the party became fully prepared. He said he would hold meetings more frequently with the party workers. He assured the participants of the meeting that he would direct the Government to look into the grievances about the development funds of the respective areas.
